GEN-BOOK Upgrades Information

Following is a list of Upgrades that have been made since August 1997

• (9/19/97) When listing the notes, the option to list them line-for-line did not work. It does now.
• (9/19/97) In PAF the notes may have several sub-notes or paragraphs separates by a blank line. All these notes were being run together into one big paragraph. Now each new paragraph or note will start on a new line.
• (9/24/97) When doing ancestors, If the computer found an end of line father with no wife it would read a Zero RIN number and lock-up the computer. This has been fixed.
• (9/25/97) When using Default FP-8, (Forward and Backward Page Number Referencing) if the RIN number was over 32,000 it would corrupt the file. This has been fixed.
• (11/18/97) In PAF 3.0 you can have source notes for Birth, Christening, Marriage, Death, and Burial. You can have individual and marriage Notes. Within the Individual Notes section you can have many sub-notes separated by a blank line. These sub-notes may begin with a TAG. You may omit certain notes based on the tag. You may want to omit any notes that begins with the tag "Adoption:". Answer "Yes" to Default-L, pick the letter size. A list of defaults will print. Pick the tags that you do not want printed. If you want to omit the phrase "DATE DATA FIRST ENTERED: 2 Sep 1997", add this tag and say "NO" don't print.
• (11/18/97) If, in the sub-notes described above, you begin a note with an exclamation mark, you can have it print as though it were an Individual Source note. Say "Yes" to Default-OO or NO-4 (Separate Source notes?). This will cause GEN-BOOK to group your notes into Regular notes and Source notes. It will then print the regular notes, then print the Source notes. The source notes may be printed as In-line, Footnotes, or Endnotes. If you say "No" to Default-OO, the notes will print as you have them entered including exclamation marks and "X"s.
• (1/7/98) With the PAF 3.0 you can enter marriage notes and marriage sources. These notes and sources will now print.
• (4/22/98) In PAF 3.0 you can have preferred parents. They may be biological, adoptive, sealing, or guardian parents. Now, if the preferred parents are adoptive, GEN-BOOK will say "he was the adopted son of ..."
• (6/27/98) PAF 3.0 now allows you to insert "Diacritic" characters. GEN-BOOK will now read and print those characters from either the notes or names.
• (6/27/98) When you ask for the spouses name to be printed in bold letters, the child's spouse did not print in bold when there was no issue. Now if a child has a spouse and no children, the spouse will print in bold letters.
• (7/20/98) When doing footnotes or endnotes and there are several different sources, the superscript numbers would run together 141516, now there is a comma between the numbers 14,15,16.

ORDER UPGRADE:   

Now there are Five Updated Versions of GEN-BOOK:
First, GEN-BOOK version 7.0 for PAF 2.31 for DOS. This is the one that reads data directly from PAF 2.31.

  Second, GEN-BOOK version 7.0 for PAF 3.0 for DOS. This one reads data directly from PAF 3.0.

  Third, GEN-BOOK version 7.0 for PAF 2.31 for Windows. This is a windows program that  reads data directly from PAF 2.31, but the defaults are edited with a windows program named GENBK. The defaults have been re-arranged by similar category for easier location.

Fourth, GEN-BOOK version 7.0 for PAF 3.0/4.0 for Windows. This is a windows program that  reads data directly from the new PAF 3.0/4.0, but the defaults are edited with a windows program named GENBK. The defaults have been re-arranged by similar category for easier location.

Fifth, GEN-BOOK version 7.0 for GEDCOM. The GEDCOM version of GEN-BOOK will read a GEDCOM file from , Family Tree Maker, Brother's Keeper, Reunion, Family Origins, Roots, TMG, UFT, or any other that will make a GEDCOM file. The book is the same as the other version of GEN-BOOK.
