General Information
Auburn has 7 hotels and motels which are summarized here. It's probably not enough, they all tend to fill up on holidays, in the ski season, and in late June and late July (WSER and Tevis time). If you desire accommodations, it would be probably be good to call ahead. I'm not sure if all of them are available on-line.
In addition, there are hotels and motels at the intersection of I-80 and Rocklin Road (about 10 mi SW of Auburn), and in the Roseville area (about 15 mi SW of Auburn, again along I-80). If you are having problems obtaining hotel accommodations, contact the Auburn Chamber of Commerce at this link. I'm sure they can help you.
All of the hotels and motels listed here are clean, fairly normally equipped, and all have pools. All except the Foothills Motel are part of chains with toll-free central reservation numbers.
As with most hotels, prices depend on when you want to stay, when you make the reservation, the phase of the moon and alignment of the planets, and whether or not the clerk is having a bad hair day. Consequently, we've left prices out of these summaries. You'll need to deal directly with the business for reservations and information.

Central Auburn
Holiday Inn ... Located at the intersection of I-80 and SR49 at 120 Grass Valley Hwy (SR49), Auburn CA 95603 530.887.8787 or 800.814.8787. It is quite new, with 96 rooms, has a Marie Callender's Restaurant in it, and an In-N-Out Burger adjacent. From below Auburn, exit at Placerville-Grass Valley exit (SR49), turn left under the interstate, and make an immediate right into the hotel driveway prior to the In-N-Out Burger. If you're coming to Auburn to help with communications for the WSER or theTevis, to reach NCS from the hotel, turn left onto SR49 at the hotel entrance, proceed under the interstate to the tee. Left at the tee, and then immediate right onto Oakwood. Proceed to the end (Taco Tree on right) and turn right onto High St. Continue on High St to Pleasant St on your left (about 1 1/2 blocks). Left on Pleasant to the top, cross the tracks and continue to the Overlook Park on your left.
North Auburn
All of these motels are located at the intersection of I-80 and Foresthill/Auburn Ravine Rd. From downtown Auburn, continue east on I-80 to the Foresthill exit. The Best Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, and Foothills will be on your left, over the Interstate. The Golden Key and Travelodge are on your right, up Lincoln Way, past the Raley's shopping center
There are a myriad of restaurants and fast food in this area within 1/2 mi of any of the motels. "Real" restaurants include the Sierra Grill, Hanfords, Sizzler, Lou LaBonte's, Baker's Square, Tio Pepe's, and Denny's. Fast food encompasses everything known to mankind on the North American continent. There are also Mexican, Chinese, and Thai places (if you like mexican food, don't miss Maria's Mexican Tacos next to the bowling alley).
Again, if you're here to help with communications for the WSER or theTevis, reach NCS from any of these motels, rejoin I-80 westbound, and exit at SR49 (Placerville/Grass Valley). Turn right, go under the interstate, and follow the directions from the Holiday Inn above.
Best Inn ... 1875 Auburn Ravine Rd, 530.885.1800 or 800.237.8466. Nice motel, about 15 yrs old or so. Directly across the street from Denny's and Taco Bell, and adjacent to Popeye's, Weinerschnitzel, and JimBoy's Tacos.
Motel 6 ... Directly adjacent to the Best Inn at 1819 Auburn Ravine Rd. 530.888.7829 or 800.466.8356. About 8 years old, it used to be a Sleep Inn, and resembles most of the Motel 6's you've seen anywhere.
Super 8 ... About 5 years old, the Super 8 is located on Bowman Rd just north of the interchange off ramps (next to JimBoy's Tacos -- I took the picture from JimBoy's parking lot). 140 E. Hillcrest Dr. 530.888.8808 or 800.800.8000.
Foothills Motel ... One of the first motels in the area (it wasn't new when we moved to Auburn 30 years ago), it is located just a little further north on Bowman Rd beyond the Super 8. 13431 Bowman Rd, 530.885.8444.
Golden Key ... A Best Western motel. 13450 Lincoln Wy 530.885.8611 or 800.201.0121. The Golden Key is about 30 years old or so, and is surrounded by a fantastic array of rose gardens.
Travelodge ... The Travelodge is located a short distance north of the Golden Key on Lincoln Wy. It is perhaps 35 years old and used to be the Country Boy Inn years ago. It has been recently remodeled.
Rocklin
Rocklin is on I-80, just east of Roseville. From Sacramento, take I-80 east to Rocklin Rd. The Rocklin Park Hotel is new and large. There are several other motels on the other side of the interstate as well.
Roseville area
Roseville is a relatively large city (for the area), about 15 mi west of Auburn. It has a wide variety of hotels and motels ... way too many to catalog here and it would be best to use an AAA or similar guide to choose them. The Oxford Suites on N. Sunrise Blvd, and a collection of new hotels at the intersection of Taylor Road and Roseville Pkwy are good candidates.
