FTA News September 2000

September Meeting: Tuesday, September 26th, 6:30 PM,
Foresthill Divide Middle School, Rm 15

Thank you Nolan Smith of the Foresthill Ranger District for the very interesting talk and slide show. Everybody had a great time and learned something about the history of the Picayune Valley.

Patent Road Staging Area will be the main subject of our September meeting. We have a video of the site and a preliminary idea of where the parking area and trail head could be located. A section of the access trail just above the Western States trail will need some renovation as it is quite steep. Most of the access trail is in great shape so our biggest initial project will be the parking area. We plan to first focus on the the basics - the road to the parking site, the parking area and the trail.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please come to the meeting as now is the time to get involved. The more people that come forward and help, the sooner we can start construction.

Possible Additional Facilities that could come later:

  • Horse Arena
  • Nature Trail
  • Par Course
  • Picnic area overlooking canyon
  • BMX track

All we need to achieve these goals are people willing to help.

    Board Elections - October 24th

If you are interested in becoming a member of FTA's dynamic, exciting, innovative board, please step forward, throw your hat into the ring and help save the trails.

Please, if you have any desire to become more involved in a worthy cause, the Trail Alliance needs you. Our trails on the Divide are vanishing. With the increasing population, our existing trails are more heavily used and need more maintenance. How can you help the FTA? Here are some ideas:

  • Help organize community walks
  • Publicity (submit our news items to the local papers>
  • Hike the local trails for trail scouting reports and monitor for maintenance

    Autumn Trails
Autumn is a wonderful time to get out and ride, but those gnats are annoying. Let's hope for an early frost. Don't forget hunting season starts at the end of September. Wear bright colored clothing and be alert for hunters out on the trails.

Not many flowers blooming at this time of year, but now is the best time to sow wildflowers in your garden.
