May Meeting
The two big annual events along the Western States Trail this summer
will be the subject of a special program at the general membership
meeting of the Foresthill Trails Alliance on May 23rd. The annual
Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run is set for June 24th followed
by the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Ride, also known as the Tevis
Cup Ride, on July 15th. Shannon Weil of Michigan Bluff, a founding
director of the Endurance Run, will make a presentation on the two
events as a guest speaker. She has been involved with the Ride and
the Run for a long time and knew Wendell Robie personally. In addition
to being able to tell some colorful stories about the Western
States trail and the events that make it famous, she can
give us some insight into how we can work together to preserve
historic trails and create new ones. Everyone is welcome, so please invite any
friends or neighbors that may be interested in these two world-renowned
events that are among the many things that make living in Foresthill
so wonderful.
Other agenda items for May Meeting:
Community Hike
Come and join us for the final 3-4 miles of the Foresthill Divide Loop
Trail.
August Guest Speaker
Nolan Smith, archeologist with the USFS Foresthill Ranger District office,
will be our guest speaker at the FTA August 22nd meeting and will show
slides of the many petroglyphs to be found in the Picayune Valley in
the Tahoe National Forest's Granite Chief Wilderness area. We are
planning a hike in this area for September.
