FTA Equestrians

The FTA has many very active horse people. We ride and work on trails regularly. Some of us also hike, run, ride mountain bikes and/or cross-country ski, so being part of a multi-use trail group is nice.

The Western States Trail, the trail gem of our community, has been preserved largely because of the 100-mile Endurance Ride. We are very grateful for the effort so many people have made to put on the event and to preserve the trail.

Suggestions for Trail Rides

The "California Loop" section of the Western States Trail is a beautiful, 16 mile single track trail from Foresthill to the bottom of Driver's Flat Rd. You can park near our office (foothill.net) at the corner of California St. and Main.

My favorite is Robinson Flat to French Meadows. It is all single track and not so steep, and the elevation is so high that is virtually never gets "hot". It has varying terrain, which makes it interesting, too. It's even too high for the mosquitoes.

A commonly used trail is the "McKeon Ponderosa Loop", which ties into the Western States Trail at the Middle Fork near Francisco's. Much of it is a fire road. There are hitching posts at Francisco's and at Hang Man's tree.
