Starting late night Wednesdau thru evening Thursday we had several problems occur. I believe our server were maliciously attacked. The attacker couldn't get into our servers so they sent an attack of packets at our server that conused software and caused it to shut down consistently until we could figure out how to stop them. Then we also lost a hard drive partially, I believe, because of the excessive logging that was required from this attack. We replaced the drive and created filters to prevent the same type of attack. Some mail boxes that were on the server before Wednesday night were lost. All incoming mail after 10:30 PM Wednesday night was sent to backup mail servers until the primary was ready to receive it. There were a few hundred total emails that were rejected for various customers at various times of the outage because of testing bringing the server back online during the attack.

Pacific Bell Internet Scheduled Maintenance
On 03/26/01 From 2:00AM to 5:00AM PBI has scheduled regular Maintenence which will affect Foothill.net customers.
This maintenance window will have times of up and down services with some traffic working and some not working.
We try to schedule these things at the most convenient time for the most people.
We are aware that no time is ever convenient but internet usage is at its lowest during these times of the morning hours.

IMPORTANT NOTICE of MAINTENANCE
TIME EXPECTED TO BE RESOLVED: 4:00, AM
Tonight Sunday night September 12th starting at about 12:00 Midnight and
supposed to be completed by Monday Morning 4:00AM
Pacific Bell Internet and Cisco will be working together replacing some
hardware and software in the routers in Sacramento and San Francisco that
connect Foothill.Net to the Internet. This new hardware and software is
designed to filter out the common attacks that have been coming to
Foothill.Net from Internet ABUSERS all over the Internet bringing our
service quality down at certain times while under attack.
We are very hopeful and feeling positive that the Cisco Engineers have
designed a good fix and that this is going to resolve the issues of
increasingly reported unreachable sites out on the internet.
During this repair your Foothill.Net email and Foothill.Net web pages will
still be available to you but you will not be able to reach most internet
web pages or services.
