Setting up to Access
Newsgroups
To view newsgroups you need a
newsgroup program.
-
If you are using Internet
Explorer 3.x, you will use Internet Mail and News.

If you are using Windows 98,
Internet Explorer 4.x or 5.x, you will use Outlook Express.

If you are using Netscape (any
version), your program is built in with your browser.
It is recommended that you use a
false e-mail address when setting up your newsgroup program. The reason
for this is so SPAMMERS and other people do not find out your address. If
someone wants to reply to you message, they can reply on the news server and you
can go back and check for replies.
Setting up you program..
Microsoft
Internet News |
- Open Internet News and
click on NEWS from the pull down menu, then select OPTIONS.
- Click on the SERVER
tab
- Enter your NAME,
E-MAIL and REPLY ADDRESSES.
- Click on the ADD
button
- In the NEWS
SERVER PROPERTIES window, click on the GENERAL
tab.
- Enter the News Server
Name nntp.foothill.net. Please note that the News
servers do NOT require you to logon
- Click on the CONNECTION
tab
- Select I USE A
MODEM TO ACCESS MY NEWSGROUPS
- Select the Dial-Up
Connection that you use to access foothill.net.
- Click OK
- Click OK

Microsoft
Outlook Express |
- Open Outlook Express
and click on TOOLS from the pull down menu, then
select ACCOUNTS.
- Click on the ADD
button and select NEWS
- Enter your NAME
and click the NEXT button
- Enter your E-MAIL
address and click the NEXT button
- Enter the News Server:
nntp.foothill.net and click the NEXT
button
- Enter Rest
News and click the NEXT button
- Select CONNECT
USING MY PHONE LINE and click the NEXT
button
- Select USE AN
EXISTING DIAL-UP CONNECTION
- Select the Dial-Up
Connection that you use to access foothill.net and click the NEXT
button
- Click FINISH
- Click CLOSE

Netscape
Navigator 3.x |
- Open Netscape
Navigator and click on OPTIONS from the pull down
menu, then select MAIL AND NEWS OPTIONS
- Click on the SERVER
tab
- In the NEWS
section enter nntp.foothill.net on the NEWS
(NNTP) SERVER line
- Click OK

Netscape
Communicator 4.x |
- Open Netscape
Communicator and click on EDIT from the pull down
menu, then select PREFERENCES
- Select GROUPS
SERVER under MAIL & GROUPS in the CATEGORY
window
- Enter the DISCUSSION
GROUPS (NEWS) SERVER: nntp.foothill.net.
- Click OK
