Gold Country District Bulletin

Sad, Sad News!
    Long time Scouter Rev. William Fanning died this week, March 3, 2002, from a second stroke. Bill was a Silver Beaver and long time District Commissioner and later Co-Advancement Chairman for Eagle Scout Reviews in Placer County, Gold Country District. He is survived by his Scouter wife and two sons. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the Dutch Flat United Methodist Church. Many friends and fellow Scouters in uniform were in attendance. He will be missed.
We will have a new District Chairman
    Mr. Bob Litchfield is very likely to be nominated for this position. Let all Scouters plan to attend the District Meeting on the 21st of March and give Bob a great big welcome.
Other District & Council Training Dates
    If you click on the Council Training Link, you will see dates for other District Training Events, which you can usually attend out of district, in case it is a better date for you to attend.
Order of the Arrow Elections
    Each Scout Troop or Varsity Team with qualified Scouts is urged to hold an election. This election must be held by March 31, 2002 in order to select candidates for an Ordeal to be held in the summer. No elections will be held at Spring Camporee.

    If you wish to arrange a unit election, please contact me at (530) 885-4258, no later than February 18, 2002. Members of the Irekwan Chapter Unit Election Team must conduct all elections. Additionally, if you do not wish to hold an Order of the Arrow Unit Election, please notify me so we can record your decision. Or O/A Advisor:Contact: Pete Hill 530-822-9275

Venturing:
    Planned for 2003 "Powder Horn" a week-long course leading to the Ranger Award.
Philmont Treks:
    If you want to send a group on a Philmont Trek but didn't get your application in on time, you have an opportunity to fit in where another group either dropped out or signed up for too many spaces. See Vince Miller at GEC or 916-728-1219 for details.
GEC Camperships
    If you have boys who want to go to camp but can't afford it, there are available spaces starting in May 17th. Contact: Vince Miller at GEC or 916-728-1219 for application forms.
Unit Photos:
    If you e-mail me your photos of Unit Activities, I will choose a sample and display them at the end of the Calendar as "photos of the month".

Newest Silver Beaver Recipients:
    Were recognized at the Council Recognition Dinner, 6:00 p.m., February 16, 2002 Congratulations go to Dan Downey, Alice Litton, Jim Richardson, & David Rose. A large turn-out of fellow Scouters and their families attended the banquet to support these great Scouters. This was at the Scottish Rite Center, 6151 H Street, across from Sac. State in Sacramento.

Have you been fingerprinted?
    Remember, anyone dealing with boys in the B.S.A. including Merit Badge Counselors must be fingerprinted. Available at RoundTable (1st Thursday) and District Committee Meeting (3rd Thursday). All meet at the LDS Center at 1255 Bell Road, Auburn.
Don't forget
    To attend one of the many Youth Protection Sessions to upgrade your card, since it is only good for two-years. You MUST be certified if you are dealing with youth. EAGLES NEST!
    Please let the Web Master know how many Eagles you had for each year, your Unit, Leaders Name, City... No youth names will be used, only the number of Eagles for the year in your unit. This is found in the Miscellaneous Section.[Contact the Webmaster]

    Roundtable meets at the LDS Center at 1255 Bell Road, Auburn, California. All Adult Scout Leaders and Committee-persons should attend.
    Theme: Each month will follow the Boy's Life Themes for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
On the Third Thursday, each month,Time: 7:00 p.m.,
    The Gold Country District Meets and is open to all interested Scouters. Come to the next one at the LDS Center at 1255 Bell Road , Auburn
On the Third Sunday, each month, Time: 1:30 p.m.,
    The Gold Country District O/A Irekwan Chapter is open to all interested Scouters. Come to the next one at the Scout House, Memorial Park, Grass Valley
